Beekeeping isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s not all watching all the buzzing and then collecting truckloads of delicious honey. Sometimes there’s failure – a lot of it. Something we certainly experienced during our first year when there were only two hives. One swarmed within the first week and had to be replaced, the other did well over the summer, despite the cold and wet conditions, and managed to give us 20 ponds of clear, yellow, goldenrod honey at the end of the season. We felt it was a great success for our first season as bee “handlers”.
